Making Peace in Your Business
Today we pause as a nation to honor Martin Luther King, Jr, a Baptist minister and civil rights leader. While many of his contemporaries were advocating violence, King used peaceful resistance and civil disobedience as an agent for badly needed change in our country.
Although no comparison to the racism and discrimination many faced during King’s life, the business world is far from peaceful.
Phrases like “cut throat”, “dog eat dog”, “conquer”, “capture”, “win”, “crush”, and “dominate” paint a picture of business that is somewhere between a football field and a battlefield. The concept that peacemakers are blessed can seem entirely out of place in business. And yet, most of us long for a break from the stress and tension of our work. Any business leader that can bring peace into the workplace will be a blessing and will be blessed.
